What We Promise To Carry On

I’d like for you to do me a favor, for just a minute- take off your political opinion hat. Now I know that might be hard for some people with the non-stop political bombardment we are under right now – but just for a minute, give it a try.

I’ve been reading, watching, and learning more about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg since her recent passing, and I honestly couldn’t believe the changes she fought for in her passion for gender equality. Rights I take for granted – like opening a checking account by myself, obtaining a credit card without a male guarantee, or getting a mortgage without a male co-signer. (Yes, you clicked on the right blog link — this is a Chiropractic office. This will come back around, I promise!)

These are changes that have been made not so long ago.

Dr. Niki still experienced this discrimination in 2009 as a female entrepreneur starting a business as a solo female practitioner — and pregnant no less! That’s right – she was 8 months pregnant and starting a business with a 2 year old at home. She will tell you she applied to 5 different banks for a business loan and was immediately denied by each. Not taking into account her as a person and her hard work, her drive, and her passion into deliberation – simply her gender and her role as a mother that she wouldn’t be “cut out for this.”

Finally the last bank she went to, a smaller bank where she could actually talk to some of the board members and share her passion, her drive, and her experience took a “chance” by giving her the loan (even though I hate calling it that – it wasn’t by chance she became successful). Her first 2 years in practice she was voted among the Best in Omaha chiropractic offices, and if you’re from Omaha – you know that’s not an easy task!

And over 10 years later that “chance” turned into a successful business that has helped thousands and thousands of people. I for one, am incredibly thankful for Dr. Niki’s perseverance and persistence.

In respect to our office, what we promise to carry on from Justice Ginsburg’s work is unwavering support and empowerment for women. Every day in our office we get the opportunity to support women not only with their health goals, but with all other goals and ambitions they have. To support them in making themselves and their health a top priority. We get to care for girls who share what they want to do with their future, and we get to be a part of supporting and encouraging those dreams. We get the opportunity, at a young age, to help girls put themselves and their health first. We get to help women who are out there battling, they are under a tremendous amount of stress and their bodies are showing signs of struggling like headaches, migraines, anxiety, sleep issues, or chronic pain. We get to see the incredible changes their bodies can make to handle that stress and heal. The best thing!? They can keep going with their dreams and ambitions without those struggles.
